PROJECT

Shelter Construction Project for Rescued Wild Cats

Give jaguars and other wild cats in captivity a new chance!

At Mariri Wildlife Sanctuary, we are committed to providing a better future for rescued wild cats, but we need your help to transform the lives of these animals once and for all. The project we are launching aims to build two special shelters to house four pumas (Puma concolor) that currently live in inadequate conditions. They are in small, cement enclosures in the middle of the city, far from the natural environment they need to feel good and thrive. We want to change that!

The Current Reality of Rescued Felines

The jaguars we want to bring to the Sanctuary have been in captivity for a long time, far from their natural habitat. They live in cramped spaces where they cannot express natural behaviors such as running, hunting or exploring. These enclosures do not offer the minimum comfort or freedom that these majestic creatures deserve. Current legislation requires a minimum size for jaguar enclosures, but these spaces are still insufficient to guarantee the well-being of these animals.

We need to change this reality now!

The New Home:

Shelters in the Preserved Cerrado

Our goal is to create much larger shelters that will provide these jaguars with a life of greater freedom, well-being and dignity. Each of the shelters will be four times larger than the minimum size established by law , giving them the space they need to move around, exercise and behave more naturally. But it’s not just about size. These enclosures will be built in a preserved area of Cerrado , rich in trees and native vegetation, providing an environment as close as possible to living in the wild, allowing the wild cats to feel at home.

In addition, to reduce the stress of captivity and promote a healthier adaptation, we will have constant environmental enrichment practices , such as installing elements that stimulate natural behaviors, such as scratching, climbing and searching for food. It will be a space that not only meets their physical needs, but also their emotional and behavioral needs.

The Mission:

Transforming the Lives of Wild Felines in Captivity

These jaguars, like many other rescued wild cats, deserve the chance to live in a way that is closer to what nature offers them. By creating suitable shelters, we ensure that these cats can live with more dignity, health and space, without the limitations and stress of inadequate enclosures.

But for this project to come to fruition, we need your help! Building these shelters will require significant financial resources, which is why we ask for your support. Every donation, no matter how small, will be essential to ensuring that these felines can have a happier and healthier future.

Be part of this mission of transformation

This project is not just about building shelters, but about providing a new life for living beings who deserve to be respected and cared for. With your support, we can offer a real chance of well-being and freedom for these jaguars and other rescued wild cats who, like them, will need a more suitable home.

Join us in this chain of good! Help change the lives of these wild felines and forever transform the destiny of animals who are ready to have a second chance at life. We can't do it without you!
